Pass It On - World Record-Breaking Attempt!
On Sunday, 9 March 2025, Wingspan is hosting a world record-breaking attempt at North Harbour Stadium. We are looking to break the record for the amount of consecutive rugby passes, and we’re doing it to celebrate International Women’s Day. To break therecord, we need at least 280 wāhine and people who support women to join us on the field.
The current world record was set in Wales at 279 passes. Now, in the international home ofrugby, you can be part of a team that aims to shatter this record. The event will not only celebrate the prowess of New Zealand’s women, but also highlight the importance ofmental health support. By showcasing the strength and resilience of women, Wingspan seeks to inspire hope and solidarity within the community.
Timings:
- Gates open at 11am
- Practice Run 11:30am
- Lunch 12:30pm
- Official Welcome 1pm
- Record Attempt 1:30pm
- Closing Celebration 3pm
World Record Info
- Passes: All passes must be backward, legal as per the rulesof rugby and a match certified rugby ball used.
- Distance: All passes must travel a minimum of 5m to their recipient.
- Participants: Each participant can only receive/pass the ball once in each attempt. Participants must be 16Y as at 09.03.2025
- Verification: The event must be overseen by a licensed NZ Rugby referee.The event must be recorded in totality by a videographer.
- Attempts: There can only be THREE attempts made. If the ballis dropped, the attempt must start again from the beginning.
- Numbers: Current record is 279 - we will try for 350
